Obama: Higher Education Standards is key to keeping Country Competitive
As an educator myself, I was pretty happy when I read this article. Our schools need better and tougher standards and policies, ones that dont let students "just get by". We need better teachers, and more programs instead of eliminating them due to budget constraints...after all, the ones who will be running our country in the future are the ones who are educating themselves today. I agree with lifting the ban on stem-cell research. The UK and other nations have been studying with stem-cells for years and this is just one step we need to take if we are to keep up with out international competitors.

Yeah, I would agree that if the government is going to handle education there are some improvements that need to be made, especially in certain areas. I don't think home schooling would work well for all people..
ReplyDeleteThat was a solid article. It kind of covered everything in the news. I was a little put off by this point: "critics and supporters alike remained jittery over the rocketing unemployment, the crumbling housing market and nagging fears that many of the country's biggest banks and financial houses were insolvent." I understand it is a big problem and the economy is sliding, but at the same time it does not all revolve around the President. And the part that does (bank regulation and stimulus $$) takes some time to either get passed or distributed.
ReplyDeleteBeyond the politics of the recession, society needs to take a breath and realize that we have only been in this recession for a year or so. The Great Depression (which everyone seems to want to compare this to) lasted from roughly 1929 to 1941.
